Perrault in The Waltz Invention

(Act One)

General Berg over the 'phone tells the Mnister of War about Perrault's death last night. According to Berg, poor old Perrault (whose name hints at the French author of fairy tales) died in his sleep. In Charles Perrault's Sleeping Beauty the Princess pricks her hand with a spindle and falls into a slumber that lasts a hundred years.

In The Event the jeweler's son, Troshcheykin's model, plays football after a sitting and smashes the looking-glass in the entrance hall. Lyubov' cuts her finger and asks Ryovshin to bring from the bedroom another mirror:

(Act Two)

In The Waltz Invention Waltz is waiting for the audience v Zale Zerkal (in the Hall of Mirrors):
(Act Two)
Son (the reporter whose name means "dream; sleep") knows well the way to the Hall of Mirrors. Son (in the English version, Trance) tells the Minister that he can keep his krasnyi yazyk (eloquent tongue) za belymi zubami (behind white teeth):
(Act One)
According to the Colonel, he noticed at once that Waltz was a madman. His costume and that quick look of a wolf betrayed him:
(Act One)
Krasnyi (cf. krasnyi yazyk) means "red." In Perrault's Little Red Riding Hood the wolf, in order to deceive the girl, puts on her grandmother's clothes.
After Barbashin (a shady character with whom Lyubov' is still in love) left the city and went abroad forever, Lyubov' commits suicide (presumably, stabs herself) and, in the "sleep of death," dreams of Barbashin disguised as Waltz.
