"Izumrudov"/ Emerald are the same person. Emerald is a Wordsmith
faculty member
whom Botkin/Kinbote transforms into part of his Zemblam fantasy. "Izumrud" is
the Russian word for the gem stone emerald". It is one of several such
pairings.
