I always assumed that by the time the film came to be made (a controversial production already vibrating with dollar signs -- at least in the eyes of America's fanzine readers), the film makers realized that there was certainly an "Enchanted Hunters" hotel, motel, lounge or lodge somewhere that would be eager to sue those two swaggering billionaires Kubrick and Nabokov. The trans to "Hunted Enchanters" was an easy fix and kept the book's readers in the know.

Nabokov, while writing the novel, had already been wise enough to invent "Huncan Dines" (unless his publishers suggested this) rather than use Duncan Hines, who, though one of the nation's favorite food purveyors at the time, may have preferred to draw the line at being named the nymphets' choice.

EDNote: Isn't there an HE/EH inversion later in the novel, concerning Quilty's play? My memory is hazy (!) at best on this point.

First: the name-switching reminds one of the Humbert/Humberg/Homberg mutations that take place at the Enchanted Hunters.

Every so often I raise the question of why the hotel in Kubrick's film (though not in VN's screenplay) was The Hunted Enchanters (visibly so), but no-one else seems to have noticed, let alone provided an explanation.
