EDNOTE. It is possible to be a good Luddite literary scholar but it is
certainly a self-limiting procedure. And, of course, plain old "close reading"
is PRE-requisite to computer-enhanced investigation. Any scholar or serious
reader who fails to take advantage of Boyd et al's On-Line ADA is shooting
him/her-self in the foot.
