EDITOR's NOTE. This note is of particular interest since the head of the
program is Gennady Barabtarlo, a leading Nabokov scholar.
--------------------------------------

"I should like to announce the launching this year of a new graduate
(MA)
programme in Russian Studies at the University of Missouri. One
reasonable
link between this event and this forum is that Nabokov occupies
uncommonly
large place in the curriculum, and opportunities to study his work here
are probably more readily available than in comparable MA programmes.

It's a 2-year programme, consisting of coursework and comprehensive
examinations (a thesis may, optionally, replace the written ones). There
is a limited number of teaching assistantships which entail either
teaching a beginning Russian course (under supervision) or a discussion
section of a large Russian civilization course (in English). In either
case, a good command and knowledge of both English and Russian are
required. A TA-ship carries a tuition waiver and, moreover, a stipend
(about $9,000).

The Russian faculty is five professors.

I would be grateful if you let your students or acquaintances know of
this
opportunity. Interested persons should direct inquiries to me
personally,
at barabtarlog@missouri.edu.
