EDITOR's NOTE.

SYMPOSIUM, publisher of the 5 volume set of VN's Russian works has recently
issued volume IV. The volume may be direct ordered from Petersburg and paid
by check. Order details and Tables of Contents for all 5 volumes are below.
Not only is this by the most complete edition of VN's works but it is
accompanied by introductory essays by Alexander Dolinin, the leading Russian
Nabokov scholar. His elegant introductory essays offer many new critical
insights. In toto, these essays come to about 150 pages of small print and
are themselves worth the price of the set. Apart from these, each item in
the collection is accompanied by extensive annotations by a team of Russian
Nabokov specialists supervised by Dolinin who himself contributes many of
the annotations---most signally to THE GIFT. The team includes M. E.
Malikova; Olga Skonechnaya; Yu. Leving; R.D. Timenchik; G. Utgof; V.B.
Potishchuk; G.B. Glushanok; and A.D. Yanovsky. Collectively, the invaluable
anotations add up to more than 600 pages of fine print. These scholars make
full use of existing Western Nabokov scholarship as well as the burgeoning
volume of Russian Nabokov research.

This is, in my opinion, the best Russian edition of Nabokov and should
become the standard citation edition.
