I made my way slowly and happily through Boswell's _Life of Johnson_ a
couple of years ago; having studied _Pale Fire_ years before, it was a

treat to read the _Life_ "through" _Pale Fire_, to catch sources of
Nabokovian
allusion, to see some of the ways Nabokov had played with the Boswell
opus. Ever since, I have been on the lookout for a critical study of
_Pale
Fire_ that focuses on tracing all those allusions and connections. Any
recommendations?

EDITOR's NOTE. I don't recall any extended discussion of Boswell's
Johnson bio. VN also refers to Boswell in _Transparent Things_
where Mr. R's secretary is accused of "bossing well" his boss.
