Since new contributions to tne VN/OULIPO relationship appeared recently
(including Mireille Ribiere's precise references), I would offer, to
those
who did not see my book "Science et Litterature" (not easily available)
or
my contribution to the Nabokov issue of Europe (n° 791, march 1995,
edited
by Christine Raguet-Bouvard), an English translation of a significant
tribute to VN by Italo Calvino (an interview with Ugo Palero, september
1984 - most probably his last interview),which has been published in
"Eremita a Parigi", a collection of autobiographical fragments,
Mondadori,
1994, under the title : "La mia cittа и New-York".

"If I had to tell who is the author I prefer in those years, I would
nominate Vladimir Nabokov : a great Russian writer, and a great writer
in
the English language; he designed for himself an English language of an
extraordinary richness. He is really a great genius, one of the greatest
writers of the century and one of the persons in which I recognize
myself
most. Of course he shows an extraordinary cynicism, a formidable
cruelty,
but he really is one of the gratest writers."

For those interested, note that the May issue of the "Magazine
Littйraire"
will be devoted to the Oulipo.
