1. Brian Boyd has called my attention to an interesting essay in a book
called _Cognitive Ecology_, ed. Morton Friedman & Edward Carterette
(Academnic Press: San Diego, 1996). The essay by Arthur Schulman is "The
Art of the Puzzler" (pp. 293-321). Although there is only inconsequential
mention of Nabokov, the essay is a thorough survey of different kinds of
word play, a prominent aspect of NABOKOV's work. A close reading might
well "sensitize" readers to the kinds of word games they are likely to
find in the VN's prose.

2. Zoran Kuzmanovich, Editor of NABOKOV STUDIES, will be unavailable for
the coming three weeks <ZOKUZMANOVIC@DAVIDSON.EDU>

3. Steve Parker, Editor of THE NABOKOVIAN and Secretary/Treasurer of the
Nabokv Society, will be unavailable from late June until mid-August.
