Re quotes on soccer -- check the Cambridge section of Speak, Memory (Ch.
13). There are "the imprints which the teat-cleats on my soccer boots have
left in the black mud before a gaping goal" (p. 269) and a lengthy
description of his goalkeeping experience there on two previous pages
the best line of which is "I was less the keeper of a soccer goal than the
keeper of a secret" (268) -- eminently quotable, I believe. If you use it,
can we split a T-shirt?
