From the "Style" section of the Washington Post (March
7, 1995), p. E3 (in the column "The Reliable Source" by Lois
Romano): "The classic Vladimir Nabokov novel 'Lolita' is once
again on its way to the big screen. Adrian Lyne ('9 1/2
Weeks') will direct this version, from a screenplay by David
Mamet; it shoots this summer on the East Coast. Lyne's looking
for a Lolita who's 'knowing and sensual and uninhibited--the
sort of ambiguious beauty who can go from being childlike to
intensely erotic in a split second.' The original adaptation
was made in 1962 but did not stick to the book."
