I discovered this tribute to the late Carl Proffer. It was written last April by Cynthia Haven, who hoedited a collection of Joseph Brodsky's correspondence. Carl Proffer was the first to publish Brodsky in the West. Ardis played a major rôle in sustaining Russian literature and her contemporary authors during the Soviet era. And, of course, Carl and Ellendea Proffer were VV's Russian language publisher.

The CBS video of Carl & Ellendea concern his final battle with the colon cancer which would kill him so early. It's quite touching. I remember Carl breaking out into laughter when discussing this or that Nabokov anecdote, or in reading aloud from a funny Nabokov extract.
