Pasternak's Doctor Zhivago is known on Antiterra (Earth's twin planet on which Ada is set) as Les Amours du Docteur Mertvago and Mertvago Forever. The latter title seems to refer to the famous opening line of Keat's Endymion: "A thing of beauty is a joy for ever." The first twenty-two lines of Keat's poem were translated to Russian by Pasternak:
Прекрасное пленяет навсегда.
К нему не остываешь. Никогда
Не впасть ему в ничтожество. Все снова
Нас будет влечь к испытанному крову
С готовым ложем и здоровым сном.
И мы затем цветы в гирлянды вьем,
Чтоб привязаться больше к чернозему
Наперекор томленью и надлому
Высоких душ, унынью вопреки
И дикости, загнавшей в тупики
Исканья наши. Да, назло пороку,
Луч красоты в одно мгновенье ока
Сгоняет с сердца тучи. Таковы
Луна и солнце, шелесты листвы,
Гурты овечьи, таковы нарциссы
В густой траве, где под прикрытьем мыса
Ручьи защиты ищут от жары,
И точно так рассыпаны дары
Лесной гвоздики на лесной поляне.
И таковы великие преданья
О славных мертвых первых дней земли,

Note slavnykh mertvykh ("the glorious dead," as Pasternak renders "the mighty dead" of the original) in the penultimate line.
Keat's opening fragment has two more lines (not translated by Pasternak):
An endless fountain of immortal drink,
Pouring unto us from the heaven's brink.
When Ada refuses to leave Andrey Vinelander, her consumptive husband, Van shouts to her:
'But, but, but' - (slapping every time his forehead) - 'to be on the very brink of, of, of - and then have that idiot turn Keats!' (3.8)
