Not sure about those directors but he did some work as an extra when he was poor in Berlin, and a scene in one of his Russian novels depicts a formally dressed concert crowd in a balcony, and I believe Nabokov was an extra in such a scene. He thought John Huston's film Beat The Devil was hilarious. I was in Ravello, Italy a month ago where Beat The Devil was filmed and there is a plaque in the town commemorating the filming.
