EDNote: At the bottom of the page, I've included a collection of links to an earlier discussion of Juanita on Nabokv-L.  Thinking all this over, it occurred to me that there is a remarkable symmetry between "Juanita Dark" and the novel's first two words, "Lolita, light. . ."  In short, "Juanita" was tongue in cheek (see the links).

I read somewhere that Lo started out as Juanita in earlier drafts.
Somehow, Lillita lacks the euphony of Lolita.
