MR: Yes, what is it Pacino's character says in one of the
Godfather films? "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me
back in!" It's true I have a soft spot for the MP theory,
given that my student is working so diligently on it.
As her advisor, I try to be both encouraging and skeptical.
My own theory of the novel is, at the moment, more pan-
theoristic, though that "interdiction of dual solutions" line
always makes me think I should really settle on one preferred
reading.
