“Instead of poetry divinely terse,/ Disjointed notes, Insomnia’s mean verse!/ Life is a message scribbled in the dark. Anonymous./ Espied on a pine’s bark...”

Interesting to catch VN, a disciplined artist and passionate scientist of whom I have a higher opinion than so many of the other very great personages working in either field during the last century, fall victim to an error I’m accustomed to seeing made by much lesser souls — that of using one’s profession and its penalties and rewards as a metaphor for life, and its see-saw characteristics?

See what I’m saying? (as we say repeatedly, habitually, and annoying here in my home town)
