Dear List: depending on how you define ‘work’ and ‘authorship,’ one that springs to mind is the Hebrew Bible, although the format of the majestic KJV does not always indicate which parts were ‘poetic’ in the original. Note how inappropriate it has become to use the adjective ‘prosaic’ when wanting to contrast prose with poetry.
A recent TIMEs editorial discussing the TOP TEN BEST BOOKS OF ALL TIME lamented that the Bible ‘came in well behind Lolita.’
