Yes, Lewis Carroll stuttered.  He was ordained a deacon but never a priest possibly for that reason. However, he did preach at times.
"Frice" sounds to me like Carroll. He invented the phrase "fritter my wig".

Didn't Carroll suffer from a speech impediment? I don't think he could have managed "Frice". But since you bring up this mathematical problem, do we know how old Humbert Humbert is is (or should I say "are"?) when he encounters the fatal nymphet?
