In a whimsical Gallimard "folio", titled
"Leurs yeux se rencontrèrent...( the most beautiful first
encounters in literature)," about the magical moment when two pairs of eyes
meet, I came across a description of Humbert's vision of Lolita among
Charlotte's lilies.
