An important correction to my “Lolita’s Ape: Caged at Last,” published in the most recent Nabokovian (No. 67; Fall 2011):  Due to my confusion of Dieter Zimmer’s 1989 annotations to Lolita with their 2006 expansions (the publication years of the relevant editions of the German translations in the Rowohlt Gesammelte Werke vol. 8), I mistakenly gave him precedence in discovering the Life magazine photographs taken by chimpanzees of their own cage bars.  In fact these were first noticed by Michael Juliar (author of Vladimir Nabokov: A Descriptive Bibliography, Garland, 1986) and posted to NABOKV-L on Oct. 26, 1998.  Mr. Juliar’s note can be conveniently read also on Zembla, with scans of the photographs, via this link: http://www.libraries.psu.edu/nabokov/apepics.htm
