Since this list are the only ones I have to express condolences to, here they are. Condolences. How sad. I'm neither an academic nor person of importance, but when I interviewed Dmitri for an amateurish essay about his life (http://www.themorningnews.org/article/i-will-sing-when-youre-all-dead), he was courtly to me, kind, responsive, and, above all, precise. That brief, email interaction w/ him is the highlight of my writing life. One of the things Dmitri told me about his father applies, I think, equally to the son himself: "He was one of the most honorable people I've ever known."
