Nabokov and American Literature. Papers on Nabokov as an American writer; his interest in specific American literary figures (Poe, Melville, Hawthorne, etc.), in American landscapes and settings, or in American culture, broadly conceived; his role in the American canon. 300-word abstracts by 23 March 2012 to Christopher A. This will be the guaranteed panel at MLA next January.

Nabokov and Autobiography.  We are looking for papers discussing Nabokov's idea of autobiography.  This could include but would not be limited to Nabokov's relationship to the history of autobiographies, from Augustine (or earlier) to the present; the "true purpose of autobiography" as it is stated and practiced in Speak, Memory; and the relation of Speak, Memory to Nabokov's other works.
