OMG - I didn't notice - the picture that does not age = Dorian Gray. Very much part of my solution to the Pale Fire puzzle. It's all in the archives!!

But I must have missed something - to what joke do you, Mr M, refer?
Carolyn

Myopic? having empty windows, or better yet, dirty ones you can't see out of? Either that or an anagram that is not jumping out at me.
Carolyn

p.s. to ed., sorry for disjointedness - but today is tisha b'av and I'm in mourning for the loss of the Temple (b't hamikdash) in Jerusalem - two of them in fact. I'm starving (I mean fasting of course) and things won't go quite as smoothly as usual.

Dear Mr M.,

You know, I wish you would go into the archives and retrieve the very first posting I sent to this list in 2002 I believe. The subject line reads: pada ata doesn't add up.

I'll be interested to hear if it rings any bells for you,
Carolyn

p.s. "one star" might just refer to Venus, a planet our Charley would not be overly fond of. And the rats and feasts - do you see anything there other than the obvious death references?
