Dear editors, this is a big mistake, that you finished discussion on this very important topic.
Any monopoly, include the rights of heirs, should have some reasonable limits. Who can stop
the scholar research, the human mind, new ideas? What kind of Inquisition they represent?
They have their estate rights to grab the money from every new edition or every mention of their
"breadwinner", but not to choose the direction of new approaches.


EDComment: I didn't close discussion of the problems of copyright, nor expressions of protest over the state of current Nabokov publishing contracts (from those who have specific knowledge or experience with these).  Nevertheless, I think most abstract discussions of copyright law (and intellectual property) are inappropriate for this list, and I will approve only contributions that are carefully presented and address the topic in ways clearly relevant to Nabokov.
