Maurice Couturier writes:

I am going to read Widiss's book with great interest. It seems to me, though,
that his thesis as presented here and in its abstract is not really new. In "La
figure de l'auteur" (Seuil, 1995), I developed an approach to the subject which
does away with the myth of "the death of the author". Even though it has been
largely ignored in the English-speaking world (as again by a reader of
my "Nabokov's Eros" appointed by a publisher), it has been rather favorably
received elsewhere. Nabokov, who largely prompted me to develop this
interactive theory (that he wouldn't have subscribed to, I am sure), is given a
great deal of coverage in that book.
