I discovered this tribute to the late Carl Proffer. It was written last April by Cynthia Haven, who hoedited a collection of Joseph Brodsky's correspondence. Carl Proffer was the first to publish Brodsky in the West. Ardis played a major rĂ´le in sustaining Russian literature and her contemporary authors during the Soviet era. And, of course, Carl and Ellendea Proffer were VV's Russian language publisher.

The CBS video of Carl & Ellendea concern his final battle with the colon cancer which would kill him so early. It's quite touching. I remember Carl breaking out into laughter when discussing this or that Nabokov anecdote, or in reading aloud from a funny Nabokov extract.
