Abstract

The influence of Nicholas Freeling's Double-Barrel on Nabokov's incorporation within Ada of motifs relating to Dutch veen (peat, bog) as complications of the idyllic or paradisiac garden of Ada, with additional observations on the theme of Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights in the novel.
