NABOKV-L THANKS CAROLYN KUNIN FOR these items. Be
aware, however, that these Olympia "first editions" are not "first
editions" in the collector's sense. It is my hazy recollection that a large
stockpile of these printings were found in a warehouse some years ago and were
being sold via Daedalus (?) for about $10. They are very nice items/gifts
for Nabokovians but not heavy duty collectibles.

Description
Olympia Press, Paris, 1958, first edition, third
printing april 1959 of this highly original twentieth-century literary
landmark.with 6 pages updated (2nd printing of the "publisher`s digression"
dated april 1959 which states that first french edition by gallimard will be
published at the end of april 1959 and updates the continuing pornography
litigation. the third printing does not reprint the first "publishers
digression" that appearedin the second printing of november 1958. as american
publishers of the early 1950`s would have nothing to dowith a novel whose
protagonist was an obsessed pedophile, nabokow had turned to maurice girodias and
his slightly unsavory olympia press (paris) to get the book published. its
now-famous olive green cover can be recognized from a distance at any rare books
fair or exhibit, just as the blue toned- paper binding on an original ulysses by
joyce is unmistakable.two volums. 8vo.original green paper wrappers printed in
black. printed price (francs: 2400) on back cover.minimal wears at the edges.on
the back:not to be sold in u.s.a. u. k. or philippines. please feel free to ask

Description
Vladimir Nabokov: Lolita. Olympia Press, Paris. The
Traveller's Companion Series. Stated Fourth printing February 1961. Very good
with a bit of fading and reading creases on spine. This copy is a variant which
has the pages 193-288 printed on heavier and somewhat darker paper stock, which
makes the book somewhat thicker than usual. First edition with the butterfly
cover (Nabokov was a great butterfly specialist). Price US $ 0.75 N.F. 3.75.
Nabokov's book caused a great scandal, obscuring the fact that this is one of
the great original masterpieces of contemporary literature, which can be read on
many levels. The book was originally published in wraps by Olympia Press in
1955. Copies of the first edition now go for up to $9,500. The second edition
from 1958 can cost $1,000. All early Olympia printings are rare and highly
collectible. Shipping will be $7 by surface mail, $8 by air mail. Payment in US
cash or by credit card through PayPal or BidPay.
