Dear Don,
EDNOTE. The SLOVO, an account of a famous Russian battle with Asiatic invaders in 1185, is the Russian equivalent of "Chanson de Roland," "El Cid", "Die Nibelungen", "Beowulf," etc.--- VN published his own translation done for his classes and provided it with extensive notes and commentary. The edition below reprints the English translation and apparatus plus an essay by the well-known Russian scholar Vadim Stark. The original American version has long been out of print. I have found the Russian dealer to be reliable.
