In the Russian version of Lolita VN translates "swooners" as modnykh sviterov (Gen. pl.), fashionable sweaters. "Swooner" must be a slang term for "sweater" from the 1940s. Like the French Ada, the Russian Lolita is a good source where you can often find words that you don't know in English. I'm about to complete a new Swedish translation of "Lolita." There's one word the meaning of which 
still eludes me. In the last chapter of Part One, Humbert refers to some items of clothing that he has 
just purchased. What, pray, are "swooners"? None of the dictionaries I've consulted have been able to 
offer any help.
