What about Pnin in the Library? I think Dean’s office considers him to take over Russian/Slavic Departments in place of mad Botkin. Events of PF occur in June, which is end of school year. If Botkin converted to Kinbote recently that explains why he was not fired during school year.

 

 It seems natural that Nabokov got a job for Pnin in the end after Pnin refused author’s offer of help in his ‘home’ novel.
