Re Fischer/Nabokov, I'm hazy on the date, and I don't have the book in hand,  but one day when I was in my office at Sports Illustrated in the Time-Life Building, I got a call from Robert Cantwell, another writer on the staff.  "Come around to my office," he said.  "I've got Bobby Fischer here.  I want you to meet him."  I grabbed a copy of Nabokov's Poems and Problems and went to Cantwell's office. I shook hands with Fischer, opened the book to a problem and handed it to him.  Fischer glanced at it for all of five or 10 seconds, smiled, and said, "Hmmm, cute," and gave the book back to me.
