Don Johnson forwards this item on Dieter Zimmer's web-site collection of Lolita
covers, reported at "The Faster Times" web site: http://thefastertimes.com/fiction/2010/08/11/150-covers-for-nabokovs-lolita/
JM: Resuscitations? Prof. Zimmer’s site
and Lolita covers are not very recent but has, at last (and deservedly) become ”news.”…
It was fun to look them over again for, as we all know, repetitions may bring something
totally unexpected for we change, even if the past changes not.
What called my attention was to realize that so many “Lolita”
covers are not at all “nymphic” but merely, slutty and “pedophilistic.”
Various suggest the spell of what HH defines as “a nymphet,”
whereas other covers only present the stereotype of any common young girl. To
follow the order of publication dates is also rather informative. My favorite
one, for today, is a 2002 Greek cover. Not because of its “nymphic magic,”
but by the peculiarly androgynous quality of the girl’s sleek lines.
