Five decades after its first appearance,
Pale Fire
remains in many ways a mystery to its readers. While some of its
riddles have been decisively solved, and solutions have been proposed
for others, the novel's most basic elements still escape final
conclusions.
Pale Fire is a text that both encourages and
resists scholarly examination of all sorts.
