An addendum to my previous post:

In his student years Afanasiy Fet lived at the Moscow house of his fellow student and friend, the poet Apollon Grigoriev. As he speaks to Troshcheykin, Barboshin quotes a line from Grigoriev's most famous poem (quoted also in Ada): Но вы так хороши, и ночь такая лунная... (But you are so beautiful and the night is so moonlit: "The Event," Act Three).
On the other hand, Fet's and Grigoriev's professor at the Moscow University was Mikhail Pogodin (the author of "Марфа посадница").
