Carolyn Kunin [off-List to Jansy Mello: The posting
about Maar that Carolyn refers to was distributed a long time ago...Carolyn, why
can't you offer dates, references, context? It would make it easier for me to
comment.] Who brought up my interpretation of Maar? Pas moi!
therefore you should do the archival dives, et pas moi. I am busy busy busy. Why
is everybody trying to confuse me, when all I want to do is ... well, never mind
that.
Jansy Mello: Carolyn challenged me to
find in the Archives her interpretation of Maar, in order to explain my own
commentary to them.
Here's what C.Kunin sent two years ago: (Sat. 13
February 2010): " I just received my copy of Michael Maar's new book and am
very pleased. Mr Maar seems to me to strike just the right balance
of appreciation of Nabokov's genius and unique qualities with a
nuanced scepticism of the master's pronouncements. He has noticed
overarching links between works that I certainly had not noticed and that so far
as I am aware have gone unnoticed by others. Very highly
recommended."
I have no idea why C. Kunin objects to my observation
praising her evaluation of Maar's book. Here are my own words, as
recently quoted by CK: "But, Jansy
if I may, I have no idea of what you mean by the following, and how I could
possibly have anything to do with it. "I was happy when I read Carolyn Kunin's
reference to "Speak, Nabokov" because, in her commentary, she stressed
Maar's non-idolatrous vertex and the scope of his literary
inter/intra-connections, favouring exciting inroads into VN's
works." text/html - LISTSERV Archives at

We've had, CK and I, so many hitches in our
communication (server problems, I presume), that she must have confused what has
happened in our exchanges in the List ( past and present): I was merely
endorsing her words and happy to get a chance to be less critical of Maar
(because of his pseudo-freudian conjectures). I hope my explanation is
satisfactory now?
