A more direct source of Kalikakov name could be the famous eugenic (dysgenic) 1912 study The Kallikak Family: A Study in the Heredity of Feeble-Mindedness by the American psychologist and eugenicist Henry H. Goddard. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kallikak_Family The name Kallikak is a pseudonym coined by Goddard from the Greek words καλός (kallos) meaning beautiful and κακός (kakos) meaning bad.<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kallikak_Family#cite_note-1> It is possible of course that VN coined the same name without knowing Goddard's book.
