I purchased a genuine set of Staunton chessmen - and one Lady needless to say - and was surprised that it contained almost double the number of pieces needed. Can anyone enlighten me why this should be? The box is lined with green baize and I would venture that it is walnut. There is some mark on one of the pieces to prove that the set is genuine, a purple crown stamped on the knight perhaps. I'm not at home or I would check - ha - it out.
