A friend pointed out that the new movie about Nick Cave (critically acclaimed Australian musician and songwriter, among other professional roles), as reviewed in the New York Times, includes this detail:

"Reflecting on his childhood artistic inclinations, Mr. Cave suggests that his father’s reading him the first chapter of “Lolita” helped set him on his path." (Review by Stephen Holden, http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/17/movies/in-20000-days-on-earth-nick-cave-is-on-the-move.html)

During our discussion, I noticed that the film's title, "20,000 Days on Earth," sounds like an echo of Fyodor Godunov-Cherdyntsev's gratitude for the 10,000 days (gifts) bestowed upon him up to that day in the novel. The Times calls the film, which depicts a recreation of the 20,000th day of Mr. Cave's life, "a fusion of documentary and drama".
