Abstract
The book traces the Japanese reception of Nabokov as an atheist in the 1970’s and 80’s. The author, a man of erudition and retentive memory, cites such diverse writers as Swift, Wordsworth, Pater, Joyce, Proust and Dostoevsky, comparing their artistic methods and styles at will. This work contributed a great deal to common perception of Nabokov in Japan.
