Thank you, Jerry, for the clear Mother-Goose image where a "Czar starts his reign with a cow balanced on his head." and, as foreseen by Kinbote, explanatory foot-notes in Portuguese were necessary (corvo-coroa-vaca).

Translation for Lass, Mass, Mars, Mare, Male yielded Bardo,Bordo, Borda,Corda,Coroa.
They came out, in the Index, as:
Bardo : ver Bordo
Bordo: Borda, Corda, ver Coroa
Coroa: ver Golfe de Palavras
Golfe de Palavras: predileção de S. por, 819; ver Bardo.

The other example for CK's commentary to line 819 became
Vida, Lida, Lido, Ludo, Luto ( Vida/Life ;Luto/Mourning).
