Dear Nabokv-L Subscribers,

I have heard back from only a small handful of you, which leads me to
believe that we are not faced with a widespread problem.

What I have learned is the following:

-The internet gets the hiccups (hiccoughs!). There are hidden
formatting signals within email messages, and sometimes our email
service providers, or some other link along the way, corrupts these
signals. When this happens, we get mis-formatted emails. (I have gotten
them too, as I now realize).

-The "digest" format is more prone to errors than regular format.

-If you receive a message which has endless horizontal lines that
require awkward scrolling, my advice is the following:

-copy the entire text into a clean outgoing message
-"select" all of the text
-change the formatting from whatever it is to "body text", if you
can find the pull-down that lets you do that
-if you can't do that, copy it all into a microsoft Word window (or
any other processor)--the word processor should create reasonable line
breaks automatically. It will be much easier to read.

It seems that these are just glitches in the internet, not specifically
related to my software, yours, or our listserv software. If you
experience further problems that seem to fit some sort of pattern,
please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

If digest readers can report in more detail about the nature and extent
of that problem, I will look into ways to remedy it.

Sincerely,
Stephen Blackwell
