EDITOR's NOTE. Priscilla Meyer <pmeyer@mail.wesleyan.edu>, author of
_Find What the Sailor has Hidden_, a 1988 study of PALE FIRE, as well as
many other VN studies, offers an ingenious theory of Ms. Braun's _While
Lilics Last_. She is also the organizer of the 12-14 March conference
"1799, 1899, 1999: Pushkin, Nabokov and Intertextuality" at Wesleyan
University, CT.

Vladimir Vladimirovich, which in cyrillic looks like BB.

Lilac for VN is usually associated with the border between this world and
the otherworld.

VN often casts the opposition America/Russia as a parodic version of this
world/otherworld.

This suggests that BB's "WLL" is the mortal American mirror image of VN's
Russian memoir. This accounts for combining BB's relatively silly book with
VN's memoir.
