In the poem, the tail like a boat ...

At least in American English, "boat-tailed" is a description of
various birds (boat-tailed grackle, etc.). Don knows these things
better than I do, but I believe that it describes a long tail,
slightly widening out toward the end and somewhat rounded. I have no
idea whether the same idea applies in Russian. --C. Nicol
