I am also surprised to hear that Nabokov disliked The Great Gatsby, and
am stumped as to why this is. Indeed, both authors deal with theme of a
quest to repeat the past, and also with fantasy and dreams that are
vulgarised by reality. So it cannot be the themes that Nabokov thought
so 'terrible'. Could Nabokov be adverse to Nick Carraway as a narrator
by any chance? This is but a shot in the dark.
By the way, I would very much like to know where I can find Nabokov's
comments on Fitzgerald.
