Normally, I enjoy simply reading the posts, but have decided to de-lurk to
ask help.

It occurred to me recently that much literary fiction relies on what I'm
calling "another space" by/through which the narrative works at all. Even
in poetry, there is what we call the turn (and I'm thinking of it
physically, like the twist in a mobius band). In Nabokov's work, there
seems to be a need for this space (or somethink like it). In Bend Sinister,
Krug ends up there (as does Cinncinatus in Inv. to a Beheading). The ghosts
of Transparent Things exist there (and talk about falling through/into it in
the pencil scene). If Luzhin is involved in some great game of chess, the
board might occupy this space. Regardless, I'm wondering if anyone can
suggest what this might have to do with Ada (is the space I'm talking about
Terra? If so, how does it effect Van and Ada directly?). Too, can anyone
think of other examples from other VN works? I'm sure there are many, but
have blocked for the moment.

I'm still in the thinking stages and some of it's not quite clear.

Thanks,
Tim Richardson
