Thought I would resend this since the technical difficulties may have
swallowed it up.

I once went on this very goose-chase to find the alleged magazine and
picture. Presuming it was indeed Life magazine, I paged through the
issues dated May-June 1947 (these dates given us by HH, p. 40,
Annontated Lolita). I did not find the picture, but I found so many
other things in the same vain that I was satisfied. See, for example,
the hilarious "Burma Shave School of Poetry" (Life, 6/2/47 -- and
Lolita, p. 158: "The Bearded Woman read our jingle and now she is no
longer single.") I did not look through "Look," as Stephen Schiff
suggests. I wonder, where did he find the picture?

Also, regarding the notorious magazine scene, I look forward to seeing
whether the mentioned filmaker was able to resolve Humbert's pity that
"no film had recorded the curious pattern, the monogrammic linkage of
our simultaneous or overlapping moves."
