Here is the mock crowning of knyaz'-papa (the Prince Pope) Pyotr Buturlin (the former metropolitan of St. Petersburg) by arkhizhrets (the arch-priest) of the tsar's vsep'yaneyshiy sobor (most drunken council) on the day following the execution of Stepan Glebov (the lover of Eudoxia Lopukhina, the first wife of Peter I), Kikin, Dokukin and others:
Венец мглы Бахусовой да будет на главе твоей!
Венчаю аз пьяный сего нетрезвого -
Во имя всех пьяниц,
Во имя всех стекляниц,
Во имя всех дураков,
Во имя всех шутов,
Во имя всех вин,

Вин (Gen. pl. of vino, "wine") is also the Russian spelling of the name Veen.
Табаков (Gen. pl. of tabak,* "tobacco") is a common Russian surname. On the other hand, it brings to mind Cordula's first husband Ivan Giovannovich Tobak, the shipowner. His ancestor 'was the famous or fameux Russian admiral who had an epee duel with Jean Nicot and after whom the Tobago Islands, or the Tobakoff Islands, are named' (2.5). As I pointed out before, Tabachnyi kapitan (The Tobacco Captain, 1944) is a musical comedy by Nikolay Aduev (VN's schoolmate at the Tenishev school N. Rabinovich). The tsar Peter I is one of its characters.
One also recalls Bouteillan, the butler in Ardis, his bastard Bout and their mistress Blanche "de la Tourbiere."
Prince Alexey's mistress Evforsinia was a house-serf of the Vyazemskis:

Alexey compares her to the goddess Venus (whose statue he saw in the Letniy Sad) and almost religiously kisses her feet.

Dmitri Filosofov (1872-1940) was a first cousin, not "nephew", of S. P. Dyagilev.
