Alexey Sklyarenko: "...the dark-red New World Express reached Brazilia and Witch (or Viedma, founded by a Russian admiral). (2.2) Ved'ma ("The Witch," 1886) is a story by Chekhov. The only Russian admiral mentioned in Ada is Tobakoff (after whom the Tobago Islands, or the Tobakoff Islands, are named: 2.5). Chekhov is the author of two scenes O vrede Tobaka ("On the Harm of Tobacco") and Svad'ba ("The Wedding"), a scene based on his earlier story "The Wedding with a General" (1884), in which the general turns out to be a retired naval Captain."

JM: There's a Captain Viedma in Cervantes's Don Quixote. Check: books.google.com.br/books?isbn=087220958X...Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, James Houston Montgomery, David Quint - 2009 - Fiction - ~
"It is at Lepanto that Cervantes' character, Captain Viedma, who recounts his story, the captive's tale, in Chapters 39–41 of Part One of Don Quixote, ... "

Curiously Nabokov, in his Lectures on Don Quixote (Bowers p.145-146), details the captive's tale as the story told by a soldier. He doesn't mention the name Viedma.

Another interesting information - although it indicates a different date for Nabokov's birthday (would he be aware of that?)
April 22 Birthdays ( - SpeedyLook encyclopedia - www.myetymology.com/encyclopedia/22_of_April.html - )
22 of April is 112? Day of Year of Gregorian Calendar and 113? in leap year years . They are 253 days to finalize the year.
